Investment: Arthur Kills Again, December 2007, Art Haus Miami

Ritual for the Reinvestment of Lost Capital

For $7,000 + travel expenses, BHQF will invest a solid silver ingot (valued at $7,000) into the ocean at the location of the buyer’s choosing. The buyer will receive a receipt consisting of: a replica ingot (independently valued at $7,000), silver gelatin photograph of the drop, and satellite map. The buyer’s investment in the ocean guarantees the value of the replica at $7,000. If the replica’s value increases, so to the value of the lost capital.

For Immediate Release

Arthur Kills, NY & Miami, FL: In 1903 the Guggenheims invested $100,000 in silver bars, mined from Mexican quarries, into the bottom of the Staten Island Sound (Arthur Kills). This provocative investment was quickly rescinded, but 15% of the silver remains somewhere in the ocean.

Yves Kleinʼs “Immaterial Sensitivity Zones”

The wishing well stems from European folklore.

The tradition of throwing coins into bodies of water: from the ancient association of water with deities (scarcity of resources).

Ancient Mayans. Precious metals. Sacrificial virgins. Sacred pools.

Swimming pools became popular in the United States with the onset of mass suburbanization after World War II.

The Hindenburg ignited in New Jersey in 1937.

In the spirit of lost treasure, mirage economics, and voluptuous swimming pools, The Bruce High Quality Foundation presented the first annual donor disaster freak-out session for our silver-backed long term investment hedge fund, bond-alloyed fine-art family financial planning package, “Arthur Kills Again”, in the lifestyle infused Arthaus swimming pool (presented by Ethan Cohen and White Box) during Miami Art Basel 2007. The installation was realized due to the tireless efforts of The Bruce High Quality Foundation High Quality Internship Program. Special thanks goes to: Nikolas Gelormino, William Harris, Luke Janson, Keegan Monaghan, and Daniel Oh.
